University of Louisville Hospital’s Burn Unit – the only adult Burn Unit in the region – treats between 250 and 300 patients each year. All of the trauma surgeons are specially trained in treating burn injuries, and the burn unit staff treat all types of burns, including chemical, scald, thermal and electrical.

The Burn Unit offers a progressive program of therapy and rehabilitation for burn victims by working closely with University of Louisville physicians and hospital staff specializing in:
- Plastic surgery
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Addictive medicine
- Chaplaincy services
Burn Unit nursing staff are trained in critical care and certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS). Fully renovated in 2006, the burn unit is designed to maximize the healing opportunities for patients. The new unit features:
- 5 ICU treatment beds
- State-of-the-art Phillips monitoring system
- Arjo hydrotherapy tub
- Flat screen TVs and CD/DVD systems for patient use
